Looks clean! Maybe, that will have to be part of your normal routine, for awhile? From what I have read, lapping a barrel can smooth it out some. I have not tried it. I just been shooting and cleaning, hoping that things will smooth out, someday.

Thanks. I'm hoping now that I've got it clean, I can keep it that way. I use the rifle to shoot nutria. It can be months and several nutria later before I clean it. With this rough spot behind the muzzle it's prone to hard carbon build up there. I likely lapped this spot enough trying to get it clean. So I'm not likely to fire lap. I can feel the difference pulling a dry patch through the bore. When the patch passes through this cleaned spot the patch feels like its sliding pass glass smooth.

Have you benched that gun and shot groups with it?

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Since cleaning it yesterday, no. I bought it in 2018 and its been bench shot a few times between 50 and 200yds. My nutria kill rate is 100% with longest about 68 yds (range finder). I have no complaints about the rifle's accuracy.

I was just curious as to the groups with the gun seeing the bore scope pics. Not in anyway suggesting you were disappointed with it. Since bore scopes have come about I wonder what bores looked like in years past and would just be curious as to how much difference there would be between the looks of bores as to how they printed on paper

Found some old bench results. Four inch diameter targets. 50 and 150 yds.

Mags, I believe if you fire lap the barrel it will smooth the rough spots from the chatter and not build up as fast. The top would be smooth and the bullet would slide over the indentations. It was an interesting article about swabbing the bore with lapping grit was interesting. My 2 cents for what it is worth.

I think the in and out scrubbing I did with the lapping compound at the muzzle is probably all I want to do for now. Aside from the chatter gouge spots the rifling just inside the muzzle is not in that great of shape. For example, the edge of the lower land in the picture is almost gone.

Is that an example of good enough work? Based on your targets, it is good enough to get bullet on target. You will probably hit anything that you want to hit, which is probably good enough.

I hope so. I haven't shot it yet since this latest cleaning.
