How do I clean my new .357 Big Boy Carbine?

Post by Retlawman » Thu May 19, 2022 9:27 am

Hi,

I just purchased a Henry BB .357 Carbine. This is my first lever action. The manual gives zero details on how to clean. I found this YouTube video. It says to remove the lever, bolt and extractor to clean "the Henry way". Is this about right? Thanks

Yep, that’s the correct way to do it. Also for light cleanings you can use a bore snake (Hoppe’s and other brands) without removing the bolt. But in reality removing the lever, bolt and ejector only takes less than a minute.

Congrats on the new Henry.

See the Henry Maintenance Video's here. They don't have one specifically for the side gate models, but the process is the same. There's several video's covering all aspects of maintenance, you should watch them in sequence.

Thanks guys. I just cleaned her. Barrel was pretty dirty. I ran Hoppes with a bore brush and the 5 patches to get it clean. Mag tube was a bit dirty also. The bolt extractor channel was also dirty. I wonder how many rounds they ran through her for testing. I used Hoppes Elite oil on all the contact surfaces I could get to.

Thanks for your help. Taking her to the range this weekend or next week.
