That is just for the feds. Then I have to deal with the state.

What does the state of Washington require?

I wouldn't attempt anything like this in California, for what it's worth.

I'm not certain. We can't own full auto here and up till two years ago we couldn't even have a silencer.

Still no silencers here. I see many short barreled shotguns in stock at some gun shops so maybe those are little easier to purchase with the paperwork and stamp.

Actually a Mare's Leg in Canada is a Non-Restricted Firearm because of the barrel length.
Chiappa makes a .44 Alaskan takedown that's 12" that has a full stock. I'd love it if Henry did the same thing in .357 Magnum.

I saw a nice Chiappa SBR the other day, looked like a good home defence gun. Not sure the caliber.

Check out Hickok 45 for those Chiappa takedowns he did some reviews on them they are cool but they are also pricey

I legally converted this Mares Leg in 45 Colt to a SBR along with a few other mods. These included drilling & tapping the receiver for a peep sight, swapping the lever, adding a mount for a red dot optic and replacing the stocks with figured walnut replacements from Henry. These were intended for a carbine model so took a few hours of fitting but turned out really nice and goes well with my other lever action SBRs.

That is a very cool rifle. Would be so easy to pack on my saddle.
