H101 Scope Thoughts?
H101 Scope Thoughts?
Hey, all!
New to the forum and just purchased my third henry: H101, steeled and round barrel in 45-70. Was thinking about putting a scope on this one; anyone have any preferences for what looks and works well?
Much appreciated!

Re: H101 Scope Thoughts?
I like the size and the power for a lever rifle from 1-4x20 Leupold to Leupold M-8 fixed 4x. My 444 has a 2.5-8 on it because that is what I had at the time. I thought the 444 would destroy the Tasco scope in short order but it has survived about 10 years of abuse and still works great. I really think the straight tube scopes look the best on the lever actions in my opinion. Not Henry's but Marlin levers but still give you an idea on how they will look on your rifle. First two up front are 1-4x20 Leupolds. Third back is a M-8 fixed Leupold 4X. The Leupolds can be bought for decent prices at shows used and still have life time warranties. Fourth back is 444 Marlin with Williams peep. Last is Marlin 444 with 2.5-8 Tasco. The longer tube scopes don't look as good and scopes that have the big objective and big ocular look out of place to me on lever actions. I always had peep sights on my 45/70 1895 Marlins.

Re: H101 Scope Thoughts?
Welcome to the forum JAMD. The Leupold 1-4x20mm are a good scope. On my Henry BB steel .45 Colt, I put a Leupold 2-7x33mm Shotgun scope on. Works well and is rather slim. To scope my Henry's, I went with the Talley one piece integral base/ring set up from the Henry Store. $49, hard to beat and fits perfectly. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum JAMD. Ive seen Toms set up and like it alot. The 2 x7 gives you a great range on a lever.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: H101 Scope Thoughts?
Al, I 'm toying with the idea of putting one of those 2-7's on my .357. Those 2-7's are just about perfect for a lever gun. I'll know better when I'm finished at the range today.

Welcome to the forum. A lot of good scopes out there, hard to go wrong. I don't have any scopes on my Henry's but I do like the one piece mounts I have on my Marlins.
