Nikon to Leupold switch

If I choose to go to the Leupold rim fire, what do I need to look for?

I have my heart on a Nikon,...but am open to changing the goal. Warranty being the deciding factor.

Not that I've ever had a problem with any of the ones I have, it would be nice to know if they will still warrant thrm.

Seems to me that unless the whole company was going under, then they would have to honor warranty on any previously sold product. Nicon has a great reputation and I can't see them jeopardizing that. Would be bad for PR. Dunno though, just a thought.

I was told at a LGS that if you have a bad scope Nikon would still honor the warranty but more than likely not replace the scope with another scope and would be credit toward items still in production.

What I like about the Leupold rimfire scopes is that they're smaller and lighter than most others, so, to me, look better on small .22 rifles. I liked that about the discontinued Weavers, too. Of course, that's just my perspective, others mileage may vary . And there is that lifetime warranty, as well.

I don’t see any reason to worry about buying either a Nikon or a Leupold scope. Both companies make excellent products, and both back them up. I think I’d go to stores and handle them and look through them and buy the one you like best.

I have scopes from both makers. They are different, but are all really good.

As above, we have both Nikon and Leupold rimfire scopes and enjoy them both. I do think the Nikons have better optics for the dollar, but as mentioned, they are full size scopes, basically the same size as their big game scopes. They can overwhelm a small 22 rifle and the large lens housings make it tougher to get a low mount on the gun, especially a lever gun. The Leupold rimfires are a much more classic rimfire scope.

I always liked the Weavers also. I have four, all Japanese glass. These are very good. I just don't know where they are made presently or what, if any, the warranty is. You get to liking a glass, then, they sometimes disappear. Dang.

I hear Ya Tom! There have been many things, especially clothing that I grow to like and when I want another, only come to find it is no longer stocked, or dis-continued.

If I were in tie-break decision between a Nikon and something else, I'd go something else. Conversely if the Nikon was a clear choice over something else, I wouldn't hesitate buying a Nikon.

To add another scope into the mix. I just ordered (on a "Black Friday" deal) a Sightron S 1 Hunter 3-9X x 32 Rimfire scope, with a crosshair (kinda old school). Midway has them for $109.00. While I have only one Sightron scope, a low power shotgun/muzzle loader type, I've heard good things about them. This one is fairly compact, at about 11", fairly light, and is parallax set for 50 yards. Worth a shot, right?

That actually seems to be a pretty nice scope. I like the specs on it. Can't wait to see what you think of it at the range.

I think I'll put it on a Ruger American .22LR, that currently is wearing an old Weaver 2-7 x 32 steel scope (first one I bought for myself, in 1970), which has been "upgraded" from a centerfire rifle quite awhile ago. It has a lot of nostalgia going for it, but that's about all . If I put it on my CZ 452 .17HMR, I could free up a Burris Compact 3-9 x 32 for something else, though. Decisions, decisions... . I will report on it when I get a look at it late this week.

I suspect that good companies like Leupold will be experiencing an uptick in sales
