I'm looking for a scope for my Long Ranger and I'm thinking about the Leupold VX-6. They make several versions. Which one would you should choose for a .223 at 200 yards.

sorry, can't help offer any assistance with Leupold .... they do have a really good reputation .... what I do know is I try to go with a much higher magnification if the targets I anticipate are small .... if I'm hunting gophers in South Dakota I go with higher magnification than if I'm elk hunting .... looking forward to hearing what you come up with

As always your choice of scope is a personal choice, but knowing this will be a scope for target work at 200 yards, I like the 3-18x44. I'm not a fan of big 50mm scopes on a lever gun, so I'd consider this one still doable as far as size and weight. That's enough magnification for bench work and low enough magnification for offhand work, too.

Having a small front bell is important to me and I was thinking the exact same scope.

Nice scope for a nice rifle. Should make a great shooter.

To further limit my choice I'm thinking of the Fire Dot Duplex and not the Boone and Crockett.

I've used the fire dot on a Leupold R and loved it. Really draws your eye to the dot and MUCH easier to see than a crosshair by itself.

I’m looking forward to seeing some targets soon from SH.
Oh, and please do not forget the coffee. It’s very difficult to shoot accurately at 200 yards without good coffee.

I'm pretty old school, I admit, but I'd being going simple, basic and lightweight on that rifle: Leupold FXII 6X. As low tech as I could, on that nice classic levergun

If I were only shooting to 50 yards I would go with the FXII 6X but shooting out to 200 yards is better with a higher powered scope. I like 1x for each ten yards so a 20x would be perfect. The VX-6 3-18x44 fits that bill perfect. I'm heading to Cabela's later today and buy one if they have it in stock.
