Vintage Weaver Scopes

Here is a few of my vintage Weaver scopes. I have another dozen or so but they are all in the back of the safe or put away in boxes. The J.C. Higgins scope is made by Weaver. The set of skates belonged to my wife when she was a little girl. They are made by J.C. Higgins.

All the scopes were made in El Paso from the mid 50's to 1985.

I used to think the V22-A was but now that I have a C6 it is. Your V22 is third. I'll post a picture of the V22 and V22-A so you can see the differences. The V22-A is on top. Notice how the adjustments are different. The V22 doesn't have the adjustment caps on it but I know you know what they look like.


The reason I remove them is because it makes the scope look older. In this picture the scope on top was made before Weavers used caps. The scope on the bottom has a part missing because its used for parts.


Now look at yours where the adjustment screws into the tube. People often over tighten them and they crack right at the screw. Once broken they loose the ability to adjust.

Thanks for the update, I remember you taught me how to remove one of my adjustments. After taking it off I was able to get it to work. I was very careful tightening the screws.
I will have to go to EBay and look for C6 scopes to see if I might just need one.

The C6 has a front bell on it yet has the smaller 7/8" tube. That bell makes it very bright. The C4 scope is also excellent. I have a few J series but they were before the permacenter and the crosshairs can be off to the side and/or high or low.

Sir Henry,Nice looking rifles and scope combinations. Gives them the vintage look for sure. I use to have a dozen or more of nice clean vintage Weavers and sold them to a dealer who sells that stuff at the big show in Tulsa. I have a 39A that was side drilled from the factory made in '54 with a Weaver 4x Marksman that works well and still is clear. I bought the 39A about six years ago for $195 with a Mossberg scope on it that had adjustments on the eye piece and finally broke a cross hair and had to take it off. The Remington pictured is an original 511 made in '59 and has D6 on it that has a 7/8" straight tube. It is a great scope and looks like a 1" when looking through it. May be the only D6 I have seen. Here is a couple off my scope shelf with the 3/4 tubes. The front one is a Sears 4X and the center is a Weaver C6 and the rear is a Westernfield 4X made in Japan by Light optics. I think the older guns and the levers like Sir Henry's look right with the small tube scopes

The smaller 3/4" tubes looks even better than the 7/8" ones for sure. You have some nice looking CZ and 39A there.

I've passed up a lot of older weaver small tube scopes at gun shows because I didn't know how to differentiate the models. My thinking was either the price was too low it must be junk, or the price was too high and the seller thinks it's made of gold. Now that I'm getting more informed about scopes I can be on the lookout.

Check the adjustment mounts and make sure they are not cracked and check the contrast by looking through it. Stay away from ones with a low contrast.
