See Through Rings

I finally got around to installing a scope, that my wife got me, on a rifle (Stevens 334) that I picked up a few months back. The rings appear to be see through: see below. My thought is to swap them for the ones that came with my Marlin 336W. I have thought about see through rings for it, so I could use the open sight. Any thoughts?

Never liked them, never wanted them, never used them. I believe they force the shooter to raise his/her cheek off the comb of the stock to use the scope. I once traded for a Glenfield 30A (an economy Marlin 336) and it had an economy scope mounted in see-thru rings. I let my friend with whom I made the trade keep the scope and rings. I think a much better solution is a variable power scope. For the Glenfield (a .30-30), I mounted a low power variable Leupold scope in Talley rings.

I think that at one time, some brand of see-thru rings were marketed as "Game Saver" rings. To me, they should have been marketed as "Game Loser" rings.

I like my scopes as low as possible.
In my younger days I did have a pair on my first rifle, but no longer.
I do have a set on the ole Savage M170 that I got from the late F-I-L.
It has always shot well and I have killed quite a few deer with it so they've stayed.

You might consider Talley. There may be cheaper rings but I have found Talley rings to be of good quality. There was a time you could order directly and their customer service is quite good.

Thanks for the feedback!! This is the scope. My wife probably paid less than $50 for it. I have had it for about a year or so now. From what I have read, taller rings may be required for a large objective lens or for bolt clearance, which neither appears to be the case. Since it was a gift, I think that I will give it a chance. However, I still may look for a cheap set of rings. My Marlin 336W came with a cheap scope. Some 9 years later, it seems to be holding up. Worst case scenario, I may end up replacing the scope and rings.

 Yes, that crossed my mind. If I get it zeroed @ 200 yards, I will call it good. If not, I will be on the search for a reasonable priced scope. I paid about $400 for the rifle. I probably want spend more than $75 for a scope and ring set for it.
