nice compact scope

Post by bandit1250 » Tue Jul 08, 2025 7:54 am

A friend of mine stopped by last evening and said he ordered a Vortex 4-16 for his CZ 22. He asked if I would be interested in a new VX-1 2-7 compact rim fire scope. Still in the box with the paper work in the box. Has 1/4" click adjusters. Said he would take $125 for it. Couldn't have come at a better time with me wanting a compact scope for my 452 CZ Scout that is now in an adult length Trainer stock. This is going to be an easy handling light weight squirrel rifle this fall. I usually use a fixed 4X Leupold but I believe the 2-7 power will be nice when the leaves start to come down and the woods open up a little. Hope to get to the range and get it sighted in and maybe try some shims under that skinny barrel. Getting the shims in the right spot usually pays off with better accuracy. Take care and enjoy the summer. bandit

That VX is a great scope. Don’t forget the range report.

Bandit, you really did steal that scope, as they say. Excellent find. That very 2-7x Rimfire model is going for insane prices, now. I have the gloss version on one 22 rifle and would love to find another or even the straight 4x, but both are very expensive, now. Even worse, Leupold, for whatever reason, has dropped my favorite rimfire and air rifle scope in the Freedom 3-9x EFR. Hearing lots of complaints about Leupold these days on the net. Seems like Leupold wants to go all out military and tactical in their scope line and get out of the sprinting riflescope line.

More importantly, finding a new compact and trim rimfire riflescope is now a real challenge. What you do find labeled as a rimfire scope is just a large big game scope with a rimfire parallax. Those are fine for a heavy varmint bolt gun, but just too much scope for my trim and light 22 rifles.

Congrats Bandit. A heck of a deal and I think that will be a fine squirrel hunting scope for you.

I sort of stole a Leupold yesterday. A 2X7 VX Freedom that was on sale for 10% off, plus another 10% off for a veteran discount, plus another $10 off from a store credit. Ended up at $232. :D I like the "Hunt-Plex" reticule and this will get mounted on a Henry Single Shot in .360 for deer hunting.

NCG...I am a little disappointed with Leupold lately too. They discontinued the entire fixed power line and seem to be focusing on the big, expensive and complex "Hubble" telescopes.

I know there is a lot of Leupold lovers on this forum and Ill probably catch some comments for my comment. But I have a Leupold scope on a Ruger 77/22. I sent it back to them recently. Something came loose on the inside I also mentioned the clarity wasnt very good. It came back repaired but the clarity still isnt up to what I think is very good. I wont buy another Leupold. Every Burris I have is better than that Leupold. Congrats on your find Bandit hope it serves you well

No problem, here, Al. I have had a couple of Leupolds that weren't optically what they should have been, too. Most have been very good, though. And I'm a fixed power scope fan, too.
