I started off with off-hand shooting at the 25 yards range, to get a feel for the rifle. I ended up at the 100 yards range. I did not use my typical sight-in taget. Yet, I am satisfied with the results, for now. So far, the setup seems like it may work.

See Through Rings
Re: See Through Rings
Thanks All for the feedback!! I do appreciate it! I just left the range. I will post results later. I stopped for a cold one and some food.
For the most part, I am happy. I shot a total of 14 rounds; I had 1 misfire. My shoulder started to hurt, so I called it a day.

Are these low enough?

Re: See Through Rings
Just ordered a set of low profile rings. Will see how things work out. Thanks all!

Vaquero -
I had to take the ramp sight off. If you look close you can see the ridges of the holes where they stick up slightly from the barrel. I ran a feeler gauge on it a couple of days ago. .005" will fit, but .006" won't.
It's a Remington 514 with a straight 6x scope. The wood was perfect when I got it. It now has one scratch I need to try to raise with steam. The trigger's nothing to brag about on those 514s, but this one will still put them right where you're aiming. Minute of bowling pin at least.

Re: See Through Rings
I got the lower rings in today. My cheek seems to rest on the stock better. Hopefully, I will make it to the range soon.

Re: See Through Rings
Still seems a little high to me. It'll be interesting to hear how it works out for you at your next range trip.

Re: See Through Rings
I agree with Mags that it seems a bit high but I think you will be better pleased with that arrangement than with the game-loser rings.
Re: See Through Rings
Well, of the three sets offered, I ordered the lower set of rings listed below. I think that the scope came with the high set. When I use my bore sight, the height seems to line up pretty well, about the same way with my Marlin 336W that came with a factory mounted scope. If nothing else, my cheek seems to have a fairly consistent contact with the stock. Of course, POA and POI are what counts. Hopefully, I will make it to the range soon. Again, thanks for the feedback!!
