New Big Boy Steel 41 mag ring height question
I have a new Big Boy Steel 41 mag with the Henry picatinny mount, and a Leupold 1.5-5x20mm scope... I'd like to keep the scope as low as possible without interfering with the hammer.
Anybody know which ring height will work?

do you have or do you plan to install a Hammer Extension .... Henry sells one made by Grovtec >>>> https://henrypride.com/collections/rifl ... extensions .... having a Hammer Extension will allow you to have the least possible clearance between the scope and the hammer and still be able to operate it

Don't have it... wasn't sure I needed it with such a small scope... but I can get one if I need it.JEBar wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 5:08 pmdo you have or do you plan to install a Hammer Extension .... the suggestion to take a look at a Hammer Extension was based on your concern about mounting a scope as low as possible without interfering with the hammer .... depending on what you end up with, it may or may not be an issue

.
Don't see which scope model you have. Leupold 20mm scopes come in both a 30mm and 1" tube diameter.
Without an objective bell, how low you can go depends on the eye piece diameter, how close the eye piece bottom is to the hammer spur without the two making contact (cocked and uncocked).
You'll need to do some vertical layout analysis to determine exactly how low you can go and then fine rings that get you close. As noted in the other posts you'll need a hammer extender (extends out to the side of the hammer). You will not be able to cock or decock safely without one.

Mine is a 1 inch tube... eyepiece diameter is 1.6 inches.

I've also read about the barrel being visible through these low power scopes... is that really a thing?

Now we can get somewhere. Assuming the top of the hammer spur is even with the top of the receiver in it's full range of motion, the lowest ring/picatinny mount combined height would be 0.8 inches. Subtract out the thickness of the picatinny mount and you will have the calculated minimum ring height.

Have a good friend with a Marlin Guide gun and a 1x4 Vortex and you can see the end of the barrel.Ridgerunner665 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 10:10 pmI've also read about the barrel being visible through these low power scopes... is that really a thing?
