Long Ranger Aperture sight
Long Ranger Aperture sight
Hello,
New to the sight and Henry. Just got a Long Ranger in .223 w/ sights.
Does anyone know if the Skinner Express sight would require a taller front sight for the Long Ranger?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum from CT. Glad you joined us.
I have a Skinner Express on my BBB 357 and did not have to swap out the front sight, but I do know that others with my rifle have had to. So, I think it's going to be something you'll need to determine for yourself once you change over to the Skinner. You may also get some replies from others who can give you a bit more guidance about the Long Ranger .223. In any case, let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the reply CT.
Interesting that your rifle did not require a change but others having the same rifle did. In my limited research I had come to understand that determining a front sight height is a mathematical exercise based on measurements of barrel and rear sight height. I was hoping for an easy answer but it looks like you may be right and I will have to buy one and cross my fingers.

Re: Long Ranger Aperture sight
Wanted to give an update on whether or not the Long Ranger in .223 would require a taller front sight. In my case it did require one. After installing the Express sight it was shooting 3.5 inches high at 25yrds. Following the instructions on Skinner's web site I determined that a .500" sight would be needed, calculated at 4 inches high to allow for rear sight adjustment. Confirmed it with the good folks at Skinner's and it is on the way.

Good luck with your adventure. Those of us who have experimented with sights know your feelings. Keep on, it gets better. I was very lucky to find the perfect front/rear combination. It is an enjoyable project.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.
