How to make the Ghost Ring sight.....

Post by fortyshooter » Sun Apr 05, 2020 12:30 pm

Use a basic hacksaw blade because the mounting holes are about .150 diameter and the material is hard so locking screw won't dent.

I lay the Henry sight insert on top of blade material and center it up with blade hole. Use a White colored hacksaw blade so your scribe marks will show up clearly. Holding blade I carefully grind to each side line mark paying attention to keep it square and sides parallel to each other.

Make sure to keep the hole centered to the sides! Grind for a slide in fit into the Henry Sight holder...not to loose. Should measure .245-.250 in width.
Then cut to length using Dremel type cutting disc to 3/16ths of an inch below bottom of hole in blade. Do not grind the top edge of blade as it already has a nice finished radiused edge. Total new insert length should be 9/16ths of an inch.

You can remove the blade paint with Acetone for a nice blued look!

Forty, this is an ingenious improvement to the standard semi-buckhorn sights that come with most Henrys. Thanks for sharing it with us. I'm sure there will be many who will give it a try.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Good job, forty. Glad to see another T&D maker at work. May give it a go when I get caught up on my pressing projects, ( chainsaw on BIG limb on the ground, replacing wood on outside of my shed/shop, I didn't get finished last year before bad weather set in ).
Too many irons in my little fire, LOL.

I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.

That should work well on my Marlin Cowboy also. ;)
The rear sights are very similar.

If you make one post up a review if you get a chance. Just want to see how it works out for other folks!
