First post don't judge me to hard.

I just bought a new case hardened BB in 357 mag this past week. I was a little sceptical of the buckhorn sites on it until this afternoon. I am in love with this site. I got the gun sighted in and set a box out at 50 yards. The three in the top left were 158 SJHP 357. The top right were 158 LHP 38 special +P. The four in the center were the 357s at 100 yards. This is where I fell in love with the buck horn. The way the site is set up makes it easy for hold over. The "site picture" (field of view) using the top of the buck horn at longer distance helps me to keep track of the target. I have read a lot of hate speech for the buck horn but still am not sure why. The only complaint I have is the front bead is alittle hard to see at times but this is not a hard fix.

Well done and welcome from one open sights guy to another. Nice rifle. Targets look ok to me for sure.

Glad you joined. I also like your first Range Report, and especially your appreciation of the Henry buckhorn sight. That doesn't happen very often....many folk have found the buckhorn hard to use, and opt to change it out pretty quickly. I'm one of those.

But your POIs sure show how well a fellow can shoot with that stock iron sight. Good job!
BTW, your choice of targets is immensely better than some of the homemade ones I've used.

well done and welcome indeed .... beautiful rifle, I really like the Color Case Hardened finish .... understood on the Buckhorn rear sight .... a large number of folks here prefer a peep sight and have very good results .... for open sights, I prefer a Buckhorn .... please take a look at our How Many ? thread (link below) and add yours to our community's total

what part of Texas do you call home .... we spend our winters in our camper in Texas .... we are due to leave home in NC on Jan 4th and arrive at Lake Conroe on the 7th .... from there we will spend time at Medina Lake and on the Colorado River near Columbus .... some of the folks from this forum try to get together and shoot at a couple of different local ranges

Never to be judged hard here. I think most of us who have no use for buck horn have had our eyes go kaput with age. Amazon boxes are plentiful and make good targets!

Even though my eyes now struggle with any kind of iron sight setup, I've always had a ton of respect for buckhorn sights. I think if more people did a little research on the design of buckhorn sights and how they were used, they'd have more appreciation for them.

I as well like the buckhorn sights but my eyes are starting to not be as good with them at times as others. Im going to hold on as long as I can. Nice shooting and the CCH on your rifle looks really good.

I'll stick with them until they start calling me Mr. Magoo at the range...

Nice work! The 38 spcl dropped about the same as mine did the first (and only) time I tried them.

Have to admit, I was one of those who bailed out on the buckhorns early on, so I have lots of respect and admiration for those who can make them work. More power to all of you!

I have not used the Buckhorn sight until I got a Henry. From what I have read, it helps with longer shoots. I may play in it, just to see what I can do. I was thinking of using open sight for ranges less than 100 yards. With my 30-30, I may try out to 200 yards.

I noticed that the top of the buck horn has a 1/4 moon shape on the left and right side of it. I put the bead right at the bottom of that centered for the 100 yard shots. Of course that's with a 357. Don't think it would work with other rounds.

Welcome to the site PBT. While I have found peep sights to be more accurate than buckhorn sights, everyone’s experience will vary. They work ok, but I like my peeps.

Do you have a rifle or carbine version? One of the reasons I changed the sights on my carbine was to use a receiver mounted rear to give a longer sight picture. On a rifle with its 4” longer barrel, I probably wouldn’t have bothered with that.

I found American Eagle 158 gr sjsp rounds were the most accurate out of my .357, and as much as I want to love them, the Hornady LeverEvolution was the worst ofthe 3 or 4 rounds I’ve tried. I have yet to find any.38 Special locally.

It's a rifle. I am currently shooting the 357 PPU 158 SJHP. They do good but I want to try the 180s.
