Buckhorn, ghost ring, peep, lots of open sight options. I think I have decided on a Skinner peep sight. Now I need to make up my mind on receiver mount or dovetail mount. I'm leaning, at the moment, toward dovetail.
I would like to go with a fiber optic front sight. Does any one know the front sight height for the following:
Big boy steel. 44 mag with 16.5" octogon barrel. Model number H012RCC

Good choice, also dovetail mount is HenryUSA's preference. Skinner quotes Anthony Imperato:

...recommend on a daily basis your peep sight that fits in the dovetail slot."

Most excellent thanks. I have several scoped rifles but I can't for the life of me see why anyone would want a scope or dot sight on a traditional style rifle. Maybe if my eyesight gets worse with age I'll see things differently. Yes folks that's an intended pun.

Skinner peeps are a fantastic first upgrade from the buckhorns, you'll be pleased, for sure. You'll find that aging eyes and the solutions available are common topics around here (from me included).

Can't wait to hear your first impressions of all of it!

I mounted the skinner low pro in the rear most hole by the hammer. It gives a great field of view.

Sadly that is my eye state. So yes I have a scope on mine. I initially thought it looked like a monster growth on the Henry, but it's grown on me. I kinda like it now. I can certainly shoot better with the scope on it.

Mags, I have the same rifle in .357. How does the weight feel? I won't be hunting with mine, just shooting cans, dirt clods, etc out in the desert.. And 50-75 yard range work. Thanks.

It's heavy and gets heavier when I'm prowling the creek bank looking for nutria. I have a BrassStacker sling on it now to help with carry. On the shooting table as pictured the octagon weights not felt and helps a little with recoil. Nutria work is usually 50-80 yds out. They are skittish critters. My target 'shooting tree' I have setup at 75yds and my paper target steel plate at 80.

Yep, so did I, on my BBS .357. Great outcome.

Hmm. Going between the Skinner peep or going with the scope. As I'll be mostly shooting reactive targets and sometimes paper at the range, I may go with the Skinner first and see how that works. Whatever I decide, I'm sure to have fun.

There is more fun the more things that are tried. Think how much there can be trying out all the possibilities

Any problems with windage using the "Lo-Pro"? And did the buckhorn get in the way at all? Thanks Guys.
I'm leaning towards the Lo-Pro on my BB Brass .357.

I moved my front post about 1 mm. Dead on after that. As for the Buckhorn, I took it off.

Ok, thanks Cofisher. Probably take the buckhorn off.

I have a Low Pro on my .357. Works for me.

I removed my buckhorn and put on a Lyman Globe front sight. Worked out great!
