Skinner peep sights

Post by Luv the lever » Sun May 01, 2022 12:28 pm

I have come to the conclusion that I would like to install a peep sight on a Henry H004, Golden Boy in .22 LR.

Functional is #1 but looks can't hurt, the rifle is gorgeous but when looking at the Skinner web sight it's confusing figuring out how to order. It is a new H004 so I'm assuming it has the dovetail, must take a better look later but also what works best? I see many different apertures to order and the colors. It mounts to the barrel so wouldn't blued match? The brass ring on a blued mount seems to look decent? All brass? Thumb screws for elevation? I do kinda think the dovetail for windage seems like a good idea.

This is all new to me, is Skinner the best option or should we look at other manufactures?

Thanks for the insight, can't think of a better place to get advise on lever action rim fire rifles.

I just got the barrel sight and really like it. It seems to suit me more than the receiver sight.

Skinner probably will work. When I was looking for a peep, Ranger Point Precision was the only vendor which stated that change of the front post was not required. Now, I think Skinner is making the same claim. If Skinner had made that claim previously, I probably would have tried one. My main concern was not changing the front post. Yet, I did change the front post on my Marlin with a fiber post. I like the fiber. So, I may put one on my Henry as well.

I put the Marbles bullseye rear sight paired with their front fiber optic sight, great sight picture

I have a Skinner barrel sight on my Classic Henry H001 and a Skinner receiver sight on my BBB .357 H006M. I did not need to change the front sight on either of them, and given my skill level and eyesight, I think they've improved my shooting. Plus, they're simple. I'm glad I added them to my Henrys.

If you have a Golden Boy H004, I don't think is has a dovetail. The dovetail on a .22 rifle is for mounting a scope. The H001 Classic .22 does have a dovetail.
I think the newer Golden Boys are drilled and tapped to attach a rail for mounting a scope. I don't know if Skinner has a receiver sight for a Golden Boy that will mount using these tapped holes.
Like others have mentioned, I used a Skinner barrel mount on my older Golden Boy - mine does not have the drilled and tapped receiver.

I was definitely looking for the barrel mount and not to have the receiver done. 30-30 has a scope but its steel and it looks ok but I think that the 22 should stay "stock". ISRA member also. I'll have to actually remove the buckhorn sight and see what's under or just call Skinner.

Yes, the Golden Boy does have a dovetail cut in the octagon barrel for the buckhorn sight. Skinner's barrel mount sight works fine using the dovetail in the barrel.

Ordered and installed the barrel mounted peep on the golden boy. It took 10 minutes to change the world. What a difference.
