Which Marble Tang sight for Frontier 22 Mag

Post by greer » Wed Feb 10, 2021 10:49 pm

New to the forum and expecting my new 24" Henry Frontier 22 magnum in the mail Friday. Hoping to shoot it in Pistol Cartridge Cowboy Rifle Silhouette and was wondering if anyone had first hand experience installing a Marble tang sight and possibly a globe type front sight like a Lyman. I don't believe the Frontier has the same tang angle as the Golden Boy but not sure. The rep at Marble also wasn't sure with the Frontier which model it would take. Thanks a lot.

Welcome to the forum.

The Frontier is completely different than the Golden Boy. The Frontier is mostly interchangeable with other H001 rifles regardless of the letters after. The different calibers have very few parts unique to the caliber. The round and oct barrels also have a few unique parts.

It takes the Marble tang shown below and the .404” Lyman 17AHB globe or equivalent. You will need to drill and tap the receiver cover. Fun and easy.

Here is my 24” Frontier in 22 mag . The tang increased my sight radius from 19” to 30”.

Thanks so much for the reply. I plan on shooting an occasional pistol cartridge cowboy rifle match and have similar sights on my Marlin 39A. I got the rifle and am looking forward to getting it set up.

My 22 mag is also the 24". I was curious if you have tested many brands of ammo and which seemed the most accurate. This one seems to shoot very well at 50 yds with PMC Predator 40 gr. Need to test at 100 yds when the weather is better and the ammo hoarding craziness eases up.

I have not tested ammo head to head in this rifle. I haven’t even shot it all that much. I have one lot of Winchester that does shoot quite well in other rifles.

I can’t speak to your exact rifle but my experience with 22 wmr was with a Ruger American Bolt. I tried several loads from different manufacturers and found for me the Winchester HP varmint load grouped the best. The effectiveness of the wmr on ground squirrels was incredible compared to a long rifle.

I know I'm in the Sights and Scopes forum and thanks for the ammo responses. Hope to try the Winchester ammo soon.

I ended up installing a Marble's #8 Ballard tang sight that I had on a Marlin 39A. I had to drill and tap 2 holes after I put the sight on with double sided tape and shot it at 25 yds to make sure the height was correct. Distance from rear of sight base to back of receiver tang is 1 1/16". The factory front sight on my 24" Frontier is .450 from bottom of dovetail to center of bead. I think that is how Lyman measures their globe sights (bottom of dovetail to center of globe). I believe the Lyman 17AHB which is .404 high would work as I have quite a bit of adjustment left to go down.
