Front Sight Question

Post by Sunkist357 » Thu Jul 14, 2016 10:51 pm

Has anyone used a .50 front sight on their Steel .357? I was having problems with low shots using the .570 stock front sight. I had to raise the peep higher than I felt comfortable with. My Marlin 1895 came with a Marbles .50 and I put that on my Henry but haven't tested it yet. I want to have adjustment in both directions for when I switch loads. I'll be sighting in with some fast 140 XTP and I have a good load for 158 Acme coated which I'm guessing will have a different POI. I plan to sight the rifle in for 75 yards. That's as far as I want to shoot at a whitetail with a .357. I have a .308 for long range and the Henry will be more of a brush gun.

I haven't used one in a Steel .357 but in general having worked with sights I would say you would be near the middle of adjustments on the rear sight. The critical piece of information needed was how low it was shooting and at what distance.

It was 4" at 25 yds with the peep all the way down. Windage was dead on with the apeture centered.

I used the calculator just now. I guessed at the radius because I'm working away from home and can't measure it. My guess was 22" and the result was .098" adjustment. The factory is .568" the other is .500" so there is a remaining .030" adjustment in apeture movement needed. That is do-able.
