Hi viz sights and skinner H001 peep sight

Post by plinkiller » Sun Feb 05, 2017 2:52 pm

Hi I'm new to the forum. I've had my Henry H001 for about 5 years and recently changed out my sights to the Hi viz front sight and the skinner H001 receiver mounted peep sight, after taking it to the range I'm happy to share that they work great together. Skinner sells the drill and tap bits needed to install the sight for $12 if anyone is looking to mount it themselves. Before I changed out the sights I was having trouble finding reviews or discussions whether or not the hi viz front sight would work with the peep sight so I thought I'd share my experience just in case anyone else is looking to do the same. Happy shooting!

Welcome, OP. The Hiviz front sight should work well with a peep sight. If not, the fiber optic sight can be removed (it's dovetailed) and replaced with something else.

I might be the first to say this, but I don't like the HiRez on the H001.

Not surprising since I don't like those type of luminous tube type sites. I just took the one off my pellet gun as well.

I've never messed with the plethora of peep sites and such, but to this point all the guns that have sites save the P-38 (which I lost) I put a small dot of red nail polish on the front site. One bottle lasts a life time and that stuff is fluorescent :D

I put hi-vis sights on my shotguns a few years ago when I was shooting a lot of clay pigeons and I really liked them.

I put a hi-vis front sight on my BB .44 with a Skinner rear sight a while back and I did not like it. In low light it was okay but in bright sunlight it made a small target hard to see with the bright glow. I prefer the gold bead front sight. I did, however, swap out my Henry front sights for the smaller 1/16" gold bead front sights. Just what I prefer.

one of the best additions I've found for our Remington 11-87 has been the addition of a HIVIZ Wide Magnetic Fiber Optic Shotgun Sight .... https://www.amazon.com/HIVIZ-Magnetic-F ... gun+sights .... in both trap/skeet shooting and hunting everything from birds to deed, I've found it to be a major asset

My bud on here has the same combo as the OP on his BB. It shoots well and the fiber optic sight is easy to pick up. I like them on handguns that are used for short distances. But like Steve above says they are a little too big for me on a rifle. I prefer something a little more precise. But that's why they make so many styles. I'm all for anyone finding out what works well for them and going for it.
