Tang vs barrel mount skinner (22 GB)

Post by Oldbrass » Thu Sep 24, 2020 12:53 pm

My last outing with the new 22 golden boy was great, however my 58 year old eyes and buckhorns (you know the story) being an old vet I am accustomed to peeps but never on a barrel. Concerned it's to far forward, anybody try these?

I’ve use a Marbles tang peep on my H001 Frontier and love it. The post for the GB will need to be taller but should work the same. The tang sight will increase the sight radius which also helps. Plus it looks right.

Compared to a SGC.

I have only used a action mounted peep so I will be following this thread to see what people think about the pros and cons.

Yes and no. It requires a hole to be drilled and tapped. The metal in the tang is soft and easy. The hard part is drilling the hole straight and where you want it on a curved surface. I penned (spelling?) mine first and then used mirror to view the angle I couldn’t see.

I believe Lyman also makes one for Henrys. They are firearm specific so make sure you get the right one for the GB.
