After RR sent us a Christmas suggestion to the Cimarron Sharps reproduction rifle at the Wolverine site, I spent some time there looking at the scope rings they have for sale. A curiosity thing I do whenever a new gun website comes across my radar.

Everywhere I looked it's baffled me the cost difference for what appear to be the similar. Why?
With all the high strength modern alloy's and steel gotten to be inexpensive I don't get it.

From what I've been able to research, the Vortex is made of aluminum (probably cast aluminum at that price). The Vortex are probably adequate for an inexpensive rig, but keep in mind that the rings are probably made in China at this price and sometimes rings from this source can be notoriously soft and threads easily stripped.

The Badgers are machined steel all the way, then black oxide coated. The black oxide coating itself, probably cost more than a single Vortex ring. Note, too, that these use a wider 8-40 rings screws, whereas a lot of inexpensive rings use smaller screws.

Not sure you really need a ring with six screws and that kind of width, anyway, but I do prefer steel rings on my higher grade rifles to inexpensive aluminum rings.
