Just curious to see if anyone in the forum owns one or more of these:

This model is the Protektor #13A Rabbit Ear with hard bottom. I'm just trying to find a good rear bag that won't slide on the shooting bench, with ears narrow and deep enough to allow the rear stock on my H001M to be stable, and not cant in any way.

Has anyone had experience with these leather hard bottom rear rest bags, using a lever action?

That is the rear bag I have. You can add or remove sand to fit what you shoot.

Because of the lever, for me, they are to low to use by themselves as I would for a bolt action.

As I am ultimatly wanting to shoot them off hand, when sighting in leveractions I'll usually use sand bags in front, high enough that I can shoot sitting up right.

I've only every used sand bags provided by the range. Don't have a reason not to do something else, just what I do.

Ojail, should I consider a taller bag than this one then?

I use the Caldwell Deadshot set, front pillow and rear bag combo. The only issue, is that the front pillow rolls a bit back and forth, so I'm constantly smashing the thing with both hands to flatten the bottom. Why on god's earth they didn't consider some kind of hard bottom, rubber etc to keep both of them flat.

I always run into the lever scraping the top of the table, so usually after I take a shot, I ride the forend forward enough to eject the casing, and load another one in, usually 1 at a time through the breech - laziness.

Also, I have to squeeze the rear bag's ears to keep the stock from canting. PITA. I want something with deeper, tighter ears. I find the rear rest stability way more important than the front bag.

Still, I need a front bag with a narrow, deeper contour to fit that narrow H001M's forend.

I've seen the Caldwell Set but never handled it. You say "pillow" it is filled with "fluff" not sand?
Checked it out Corn Cob Filling. Empty that out of your front and rear bags and put in some sand your will be much happier.
Your bags should not be moving around
My bags are two 10 lb cat litter bags that I wrapped with old sweat-pant legs. They can be piled different ways for multiple heights.

I've tried various brands/types of shooting bags and, with enough adjustments, all have worked .... for me the problem has been more one of height than it has been stability .... I've found I have to take along other bags and put them together like a puzzle so as to accommodate differences in the shooting table and the bench .... it is certainly doable .... as discussed in this thread ===> http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.p ... rix#p59370 I've switched to using a Caldwell Matrix .... it is light weight, easily adjustable, provides solid support

What I mean by pillow, is the shape of the front rest. It has that concaved nook in the middle of the front rest. I like that I can draw the rifle back and forth to gain or lessen height.

But, our shooting tables are made of 2X4's, with gaps in between the boards. Ideally, it should be one flat piece on top. The front and rear rest are nylon material, so they slide on top of the wood, and the boards on top are uneven in places. It's kind of a cheap way to build a table.

Since both bags don't have a flat bottom, they tend to wobble a bit (rear bag I squeeze), the front bag has to be pounded until the bottom is flat. I think I have a solution though, much simpler. I'm going to build a a square shallow box, with rubber feet on the bottom, so I can drop the front rest bag into it, keeping it stable on all 4 sides.
