Tractortad:

"The Low-Pro is a less expensive Skinner option, but still works great on a Henry. If you go with this, make sure to get the 8-40 threads." Just confirming the threading, as the Skinner website doesn't give up this info very readily at all. Assume they'd rather sell a boat-load of Skinner Express vs. the Lo Pro. Not that concerned about only being able to adjust the Lo Pro height-wise. I'll drift the front if necessary. I like the looks of it. May even be able to stay with the brass bead front.

The Skinner website isn't totally clear on this, but you will definitely want the 8-40 threads if you go with a low-pro - the Henry scope threads are similar to a Marlin. You could probably call Andy at Skinner to confirm this. I think there was a previous thread on this subject a little while back - one of our members learned thru trial and error with Skinner that he needed 8-40 (vice 6-48) threads on a low-pro for his Henry. The low-pro is height adjustable, but not adjustable for windage - you have to drift the front sight to zero it in.

Thanks again, tractortad! I'm about 100% sure (+/-) that the factory sights will have to go. Won't waste a bunch of ammo at the range to prove it, but will give it a fair try. No Buckhorns for me - Low Pro, here I come!
Will try it with the brass bead and go from there. I like that brass bead, based on what PT7 shared with me this week.
More to come!

Surprisingly easy. That garage light is 45 yards from the point we were viewing it through the sights. I remember the first time I tried a Skinner peep and brass bead after "trying" to settle the bead in a buckhorn teeny-tiny notch. 'Twas tough for my eyes to do.
ESquared wrote:It was amazing to me how easy it was to pick up the brass bead front through the peep sight. Very clear sight picture out to 40+ yds, right Bob?

Anyway, one step at a time.

Thanks again for the show and tell, Bob.

My guess is that low-pro will work with the factory brass bead, but you will probably have to raise it a few turns from the bottomed out position. Good luck. By the way, if you are looking for a good way to fill the empty dovetail slot after removing the buckhorn sights, check out Ranger Point Precision's "profiled" rifle barrel dovetail fillers - they really clean up the look of the rifle...

Love that dovetail filler!
So do I but not the price! I just ordered three 'standard' style dovetail plugs from Skinner for about $ 27 for all three!
