Which Skinner Sight for 357 Steel Carbine.

Heyy I am currently using a weaver 1-3x scope on my big boy steel carbine and it's been great, but I am starting to miss the handyness of the gun without a heavy scope and want something perhaps a bit more durable that won't lose its zero so often.
I already determined I do not like the semi buckhorn sights as my eyes are not great.
Have any of you tried putting a skinner peep sight on your Big Boy 357 Steel Carbine?
If so, how successful was the process and did you find you had to change your front sight?
I'd really like to hear about your experience with this model.
Thanks!

I ordered the Skinner "BIG BOY" Express sight that mounts on the receiver. Don't have it yet, but-
I think the front post on mine (about .500 inch tall from the bottom of the dovetail) may be a little too short, and will shoot high. The express sight has a little bit of elevation adjustment, but may not go low enough.
If it's minor I'll just hold for it. I only have a couple rifles so it's easy to remember. Or I could put on a higher front blade and file it down to zero. The Skinner website has a few ideas about that.
It'll be fun to sort out.

I'm running a Skinner Lo pro on mine. I was able to keep the stock front sight, but I had to take the threaded spacer off the sight and file a little length off the stem so I could run it down low enough to keep it from shooting high.

GaHenryfan-
That's cool, it works.
A little ingenuity can go a long way.

I also went with the LoPro sight. And did the filing of the stem. It works very well. A very small, solid peep.

We've got a LowPro Skinner with a 17A Lyman Globe (.404") on our BBS 44 Carbine - works like a champ. We were able to easily sight the rifle in at 25 yds with this setup.

Do you take the threaded spacer off, file, then put the spacer back on? Or do you leave the spacer off all together?
I have a .357 BBS Carbine and was thinking about going with skinner too.
Thanks,

You can get it lower while still using the locknut.

I had to remove it altogether to get mine low enough. I replaced it with a thinner brass washer and the sight is bottomed out on top of it. If you zoom in on the picture in this thread you can see it.

I just got that express sight in, took a measurement and it looks like I'll have to raise that front sight for sure to compensate.
The Lo pro seems like the better choice.

Resurrecting this thread. Skinner doesn’t list the Lo Pro sight under its Henry options, so I missed it. For those that ordered it, I presume it’s the 8-40 thread like the Marlin? I was considering the Express, but now may go this route.

You presume correctly - order the 8-40 thread for a Henry BigBoy. Here's one on a BBS 44:
