Skinner Express and 327 Federal Carbine
I put Skinner Express sights on my carbine and with my cast handloads I was hitting 3 1/2 inches high at 50 yards with the rear sight all the way down. My load is a 115 grain bullet running 1500 fps I ordered a new front sight from Skinner that was .750 tall. The factory gold bead sight measured .560.
I got it installed and took it to the range today to zero it in. I set the rear sight up 3 turns and was about 6 inches low at 25 yards. I started filing down the front and shooting till I got it close at 25 yards and then moved to 75 yards. It was very close to zeroed at 75 as well. I took off right at .125 to get it set where I wanted it. It looks like I could have just ordered the .650 sight and not had to file at all.
In my opinion the new sight gives a better sight picture with the express sight than the factory gold bead did.

I'm with you on a blade front for target work. Not as traditional as the bead, but gives me better results.
How's that new 327 shoot? Haven't heard a lot about it, yet.

Re: Skinner Express and 327 Federal Carbine
Here's a couple loads I shot while trying to find what it likes. Both were shot at 75 yards. The first one was shot with an NOE 315118 cast bullet sized .313. I had similar results with a Lyman 311316 and 10 grains of 2400. I've only tried a few jacketed bullets. I really wanted to find a good shooting cast load so I haven't tried any other jacketed loads. These were shot before I added the Skinner sight with a 6 power scope.

rigger,
I am having trouble getting a Weaver 63B one piece base to fit on my .327 rifle. Which scope base did you use?
Thanks.

Often wrong, but never in doubt!

Actions speak louder than words (Matthew 7:16-20).
Re: Skinner Express and 327 Federal Carbine
I went with the Williams FP on my .327 steel.
It worked fine with the front factory sight.
Need a hammer spur extension, but that's on the way.
Mine really seems to like a 115gr Meister hard cast in front of a medium to stout load of Trailboss.
It's a very soft shooting combo, and pretty accurate for me so far, but I've stayed at/under 50 yards to date.

I used the Henry base and Burris rings with an old Redfield 6x scope. I was tempted to leave it on but wanted to try the Skinner.

It is noted that you had one and three impacts higher than the balance of the string....pls advise which ones were the high...(ie. 1st, last, etc.). If the high impacts were random, would you say it was called?

Re: Skinner Express and 327 Federal Carbine
The XTP loads three highest velocity were the 7th, 8th, and 9th shots. They were 1819, 1773, and 1838. The average for the string was 1745. Extreme spread was high at 183.6. The lowest shots in the string were 1 and 4 at 1665 and 1654. They weren't called. The next highest was 3 at 1762. It hit right in with the other 7.
I'm not sure on cast load which shot was the high one.
