Scope recommendations
Just got a new Henry all weather 45 70 with rail. Wanting to put a low power scope on it for my old eyes. Been looking at skinner 1-6 scope. Anyone used this scope. Would like other opinions on what would work best.
Re: Scope recommendations
I haven't used the Skinner scope.
I have a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 and a Leopold 3.5-10x40. Both work well for me.

Re: Scope recommendations
Don't know anything about the Skinner. I've got some Burris scopes which are good for the price but have gravitated to higher price point Crimson Trace scopes for my long range shooting.

Mags
I will take a closer look at the strike Eagle, it’s on my list.

Re: Scope recommendations
For the low power scopes I have one each, a Vortex Cross-fire II 1-4x24, and a Leupold VX Freedom 1.5-4x20.
A buddy in the St. Louis area has one of those Vortex on his 45-70 and is where I first saw one of these.

Re: Scope recommendations
I’m partial to the Leupold VX Freedoms and have a few on some Henry Big Boy Carbines. With the recoil of the 45/70 I would advise you take a close look at the eye relief of the scopes you are considering.

Re: Scope recommendations
I also recommend the Leupold VX Freedoms 1-4x. Good price point and lifetime warranty.
Re: Scope recommendations
Burris scopes for me. They also have a lifetime warranty

Re: Scope recommendations
When selecting a scope, I would let the target size, target range, and whether I'm shooting off-hand, kneeling, sitting, prone, or from a rest dictate, the scope's power . . .

Re: Scope recommendations
I have decided to go with the Leupold VX-3HD 1.5-5x20 1 inch CDS-ZL Non Illuminated Duplex SFP Riflescope with a set of low quick release ring. I hoping I can leave the peep sight on. When I get it on and tested I will give a report on it.
Re: Scope recommendations
That’s a great scope dvb. 1-4x is not quite enough. I run a 2-7 Sig on my .30-30 and a 1-4x on my .44 Mag.

Re: Scope recommendations
I did a bit of looking at this Skinner scope, and frankly, it is exactly what I’m after for my .30-30 Marlin. Of course I just put the Sig on it a year ago, so likely won’t change it this year, but a 1-6x with illuminated dot is exactly what I wanted. Hopefully someone here gets one to review soon!

Re: Scope recommendations
Im a big fan of rimfire designated scopes on lever actions.
The shorter parallax settings and the fact they are usually a bit more compact makes them perfectly suited.
Most scope manufactures make designated rimfire scopes, carry the same warranty made just as tough just with features making them better suited for shorter range use.
Leupold and Sightron on most of mine but a couple from lesser known manufacturers.
