Which Skinner sight?

Post by Wabash kid » Thu Apr 20, 2023 7:52 am

Hi All,
I have a Henry Big Boy in .357 mag, it’s a great gun, but my 71 yr old eyes don’t get along with the buckhorn sights that came on the gun. I originally wanted a Marble tang sight, but Henry in their infinite wisdom put the serial number on the tang and covering that up is a no no! So I’m gonna get a Henry peep sight, I’m just not sure if I should get the barrel mounted sight, or the receiver mounted sight. I’ve read with the barrel mounted sight I wouldn’t have to change out my front sight, but with that system you don’t have as long a sight radius. So if any of you have used both can you tell me the differences you’ve found between the barrel mounted sight and receiver mounted sight? And your recommendations?
Thanks Much,
Paul

The only Skinner I have is on my Henry Small Game Carbine, .22. It is on the receiver, and that is the way it came.

I have a Range Point Precision peep sight on my H009. It is on the receiver. I keep the front post. I am happy with the results at 100 yards.

I have a Skinner Receiver mounted peep with the original Henry front sight. I only shoot paper, but at 25 - 50 yards, very accurate. 357 BBB.

Well I called Skinner, he told me to take the rear sight off before I order a barrel mounted sight as most new Henry Bigboys don’t have the drilled and tapped screw holes under the rear sight anymore, and mine didn’t have them. So I ordered the receiver mounted Express sight in black gold. I’m sure I’m gonna like it far better than the factory buck horn sights that came on the gun. My first choice was a Marbles tang sight like the one I have on my Goldenboy, but Henry put the serial number on the tang, and covering it up is illegal.
