Big Boy Base Ring and Base Set

Post by FormerParatrooper » Thu Jan 26, 2023 8:43 pm

I am going to be mounting a scope on my BB.357 Carbine. On the Henry pride site, I found the Talley scope mount (HTBBRBS) and will be using a Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40mm scope. My eyes are older than they used to be, or those deer have become masters of camouflage.

Do I need a hammer extension? Or does the base sit high enough?

It will be at least two weeks before I can bring my rifle home from the LGS, I am scheduled out for work, then I have the Illinois 3 day wait once I present my ID and fill out the 4473. The Statutory language states the waiting period begins when the agreement is made with the seller, if it is a transfer with an FFL like my situation, however, most gun stores in Il will start the clock when you do the paperwork. They would rather be safe than sorry, and I do not blame them.

I have the Tally mount on my BBS 357 and really like it. I highly recommend the Grovtec hammer extender.

On my BBS 357 I used the Henry picatinny mount and medium heights rings to mount my Freedom 2-7x32. It cleared the hammer well enough that I didn’t use a hammer extension. This setup barley cleared the rear sight. Your scope will have a 40mm exit so may need to be mounted higher. Also hammer clearance will be affected by how far forward/rearward you mount the scope for your eye relief. I found with the Big Boy stock I need a cheek riser to properly align my eye with the scope. You’ll see in the last pic how close the scope is to the rear sight. But if your scope is mounted more forward the clearance increases. Sure wish Henry put a folding rear sight on these rifles.

I have the same mount as Hatch on my 41BBS.
I did not really need the hammer extension, but I like them and they do make pulling the hammer back easier.
Especially in a hunting situation. 😉I have them on most of my scoped leverguns.

Yes. Whether the hammer is accessible or not, the extender does make it easier IMO.
