So there is no forward extended rail for the 45/70? Like the Marlin?

So I got my two risers today and mounted the scopes. Perfect height and, being the risers are see through, I can still use the front sight. I’ll have to experiment a little to figure out aim.

The rifles look odd with the risers and scopes mounted so far up and back, but if it works? I’ll be taking them to the range tomorrow. We’ll see how it actually works.

My next question, I have heard the term “scout scope”. I understand they can be mounted well forward and still give a full sight picture. Is this correct? Larger reticle or something? I really didn’t want to use a red dot, but after looking at some, and through some, mounted on an AR I might take a look.

This is a scout scope mounted on a Ruger bolt rifle. As you can see it’s forward of the normal area to mount a scope but not excessively so. I decided to use a standard eye relief scope on this rifle but have another with a scout scope that I have shot. I thought that it would be awkward to shoot with a scout scope but once behind the rifle I was very comfortable with the sight picture.

I wonder if any relief from the cross eye dominance could be had with a 45 degree scope mount off the mounted weaver or even a scout mount ?

Okay, so that was a failure. Besides looking absolutely hideous, it just doesn’t work. Even with the 1” rise and 3” rearward mounting I’m still in such an awkward position it’s not going to work.

So.....two solutions. One, I mount both scopes on the standard rail and spend a lot of time and money learning to shoot with my right eye.

Or

Two, spend lots of money on scout scopes and figure out how to mount them far enough forward to be useable. From reading some, but not a lot, they don’t seem to last very long with something like the 45/70.

Damn I not being able to see very well. 😒

After reading this thread a couple of times, I have two things that I'd like to ask: 1], is the receiver on the BBX and the .45-70 have the same scope mounting holes spaced as a BB steel? 2], if so, wouldn't the one piece Talley mount from the Henry store work? These are very simple to mount and use.

Hi! I put a Leupold 1.5-4X on my H010G and worked beautifully. Used some heavy duty Warne steel rings with bars that lock in the picatinny rail (bought through the Henry online store) Read a lot about 45-70 scopes and the harsh kick trauma they're gonna get. Beefed it up as much as I could :-)
