A little unplanned upgrade this morning. Site is working ok it seems.
Red Dot Sights?
Re: Red Dot Sights?
Ive tried the bright white paint trick. It works ok but I think if I was to do anything with a front sight I might pick up one of the Ranger Point front sights in fiber optic and give one a try.

Re: Red Dot Sights?
Sorry, when I hear red dot sights, I think of this.

Re: Red Dot Sights?
Well I was off to the range today with the H001TRP and a bag full of targets. It took one and a half turns to move the POI to the bullseye at 25 yards. I then put a new target on the cardboard and moved it to 50 yards. The application of bright white paint worked perfectly as far as vision and elimination of seeing 2 front sight beads. However, the bead covered most of the target. The target was an 8 inch circle and the majority of shots were in the 4 inch center of the target shot at 50 yards. I wasn't satisfied with the accuracy today and don't see any way to adjust or fine tune the Skinner Sight any further. I have another Romeo5 and will need to plug the Skinner receiver holes and order another DIP Inc rail. Not a happy camper.
Re: Red Dot Sights?
Called Henry Customer Service yesterday and asked if a blade type front sight was available to replace the brass bead front sight. Not available for the H001TRP. DIP Inc rail ordered. As usual Henry's Customer Service was outstanding, best in the business!

Thanks BigAl52. I think I'll go the Red Dot route as soon as I receive the filler screws from Henry. My eyes were happy with the Red Dot on the H001L carbine. Off to the range today to fine tune it. Results so far have been very promising and my eyes are happy with the smallest dot.

Re: Red Dot Sights?
I just added a Vortex Viper to my CZ P10F pistol and really like it. It is a very high quality optic with unconditional lifetime warranty, at its lowest price yet on Amazon. ... https://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Optics-V ... B00S2P2LXO
It comes with a picatinny rail mount, or it can be installed directly on an “optics ready” pistol slide adapter plate like in the attached pic. It would work dandy on a short range rifle. It has a 6 MOA dot, so that would cover a lot of a bullseye at 50 yards or more. For more precision from a rifle, a smaller dot would be better, at the expense of acquisition time. As my eyes get more and more decrepit, I am putting optics on everything.....

Re: Red Dot Sights?
How can I mount a red dot on my H001T? It just has grooves for scope mounts.

Re: Red Dot Sights?
Follow up: I borrowed my sons Vortex Strikefire Red Dot and mounted it on my H001T. Once at the range it took about one load of ammo to get it sighted in. The dot covers about a 3” ring at 50 yards but I am satisfied with that. I got my H001T the day after Christmas and have shot over 700 rounds thru it already.
My BB 44 is not going to work with a red dot as I need some magnification to shoot 100-250 yds. Looks like a scope for that one.
Love my Henry’s.

Re: Red Dot Sights?
Deacon, keep in mind that the effective range of a 44 is only about 100 yards and considerably less for any real accuracy. Same with my BBS 357. Beyond that, the bullet will drop rather quickly. There are more appropriate calibers for shooting out to those distances.Deacon wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 10:36 amFollow up: I borrowed my sons Vortex Strikefire Red Dot and mounted it on my H001T. I did scope my 357, however, I went with a Weaver 1-3 × 20 power for closer in shots, whether hunting or target shooting. Wish you luck, whatever you decide!

Re: Red Dot Sights?
Thanks Mark, I didn’t realize the distance for a 44 was in that range.

Re: Red Dot Sights?
Don't get me wrong Deacon, would love to have a 44. Very potent load. Almost purchased one instead of my 357. Went with the 357 though because it paired well with my S&W 686 357 revolver. I don't own a 44 hand gun.
BTW, the 357 has about the same distance limitation also. I don't hunt much anymore, but when I did, most everything was within the 100 yard range.

Re: Red Dot Sights?
No problem Mark. I don’t hunt, just range shoot. I got the 44 just for something more than my 22LR. I am new to long guns, I’ve always had 9mm and 10mm handguns but as I get older I find plinking with the long guns more enjoyable.

Re: Red Dot Sights?
Understand Deacon. Plinking is about all I do now also. Much fun when we go up in the mountains to our summer cabin. Up there is where I used to bear hunt. Almost everyone in our club used a 44 rifle. I carried a S&W 500 Mag. ( ridiculous overkill
).
You will love plinking with those rifles.
