That's a great looking rig tight there. I love the look and idea of the all weather models.

Congrats on your AW .30-30! AND welcome from the TV, Oregon. Do you have some specific questions in mind about sights?

What do you plan on shooting with it. Hunting, target, tactical?

Welcome!

Welcome to the forum from CT and congratulations on your new Henry. Many members find the Skinner Peep sights to be very helpful.

I just started this forum and really don’t know how to work it yet, so forgive me if I screw it up. I want to start small. I would love to improve on the buckhorn sights but don’t know where to start. My intention is to be deadly accurate anywhere within 100 yds but I know that will require reps so.....I will be needing to buy lotsa ammo...lol

"starting small" I recommend you get to know the buckhorn sights that came on the AW. Go shoot and tinker and become familiar with how to adjust the buckhorn for windage and elevation. Back home read some of the other sight topics here http://henryrifleforums.com/viewforum.php?f=32. There's topics on a variety of sight types that might work better for you for both preference as well as quality of your own eyesight. Maybe the Ranger Point Clover Leaf or Skinner Peep would be an improvement over the buckhorn for you or any of the others in those topics. Many of us as we have gotten older had to grudgingly put scopes on our Henry's. Just couldn't see well enough without optics. Shooting a Henry with optics is just as fun as without. Anyway shoot and enjoy!

Hey guys a little update. I decided to go with a Vortex Crossfire 2 (3-9x40) with the standard reticle, not Vbrite. The scope was $150 plus rings. I am embarrassed to say that I purchased those two items and then left the rifle with them for mounting and he calls me just now and says "do you have the mount?" I totally spaced it and Henry does not send a mount with them. The parts/accessories side of Henry is closed due to Covid-19 and you cannot find a mount readily available anywhere in town or online.

So, he's gonna order one and its gonna be 3-4 weeks just to get it due to Covid-19. Oh well, at least he'll eventually get it mounted and the rifle will be laser bore sighted on paper at 100 yards.

I will post pics when I get it, probably a month from now :(

Finally got it back today. 3-9 might be overkill but it was only $150.

Now I need to figure out why my tube dovetail at the front of the barrel is loose. Anyone else seen this happen? Easy fix?

Hi Folks,

Wow - looks great - nice pix - have the same sling on my Model X - I'll stick with the fiber optic sights for now.

Regards,
Scott

to my eye, that is one nice looking rig .. 8-) .. years ago an old rule of thumb for selecting a good scope magnification was 1 power per 10 yards of anticipated shooting range .... your 357 is most certainly a 100 or more yard shooter so 3 X 9 should serve you well .... looking forward to your range reports and use impressions
