Rhino Picatinny rail on a brass big boy

Post by dave77 » Sat Sep 30, 2017 5:40 pm

Got my first Henry, a .357 Brass Big Boy. I love it but my old eyes are having some trouble focusing on the front sight. I want to try a Skinner barrel mount peep sight on it. I was looking at the Rhino Picatinny rail which is listed as for the Steel Big Boy, Is there any reason it would not work on my Brass Big Boy if I cut enough of the front off to clear the raised part of the receiver? I think it would still be long enough to mount a small scope (I've been looking at a Vortex Crossfire 2-7 x32). I was hoping that with the notch cut in the middle of the Rhino rail You would be able to use the peep sight by just removing the scope and leaving the rail mounted.

Has anyone tried the Rhino rail on a brass Big Boy and can you see the iron sights with it mounted?

Thanks

I don't believe the steel and brass versions have the same hole spacing for the rail.
Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Hole spacing should be the same. The info on the picatinny rail sold by Henry says:

"The new Picatinny Scope Base for 2nd Generation Big Boys. Will fit all 2nd Generation brass models and all steel big boys."

Looking at several pictures it seems the main difference is the brass receiver has the raised front which is why the Henry rail has the little legs on it so it will clear.

Looking at the picture of the Rhino rail I'm pretty sure even cut down a bit a short scope would fit but if the cut out down the middle isn't deep enough to see the iron sights I might as well use the Henry rail that I already have.
