I did not expect a reprise of the Christmas Eve sunrise I photographed and posted on the Forum last month! Here is why/how I spent my morning time today.
Orthodox Christians in central and eastern Europe and other parts of the world celebrate Christmas on January 7th, which is what I did growing up in northern Illinois. This date works to the Julian calendar that pre-dates the Gregorian calendar, which is commonly observed. My Mom's side of our family celebrated on December 25th while my Dad's side celebrated on January 7th.
As a kid, how much fun it was to celebrate Christmas twice within two weeks. This season I'll celebrate with you all as I captured today's beautiful sunrise in the Northland of KCMO. The traditional Orthodox greeting whenever we attended church services is a special memory I'll always keep. So on this Christmas Eve (to everyone, and especially to those of you who have ever celebrated through Orthodoxy), "Christ is Born!" Indeed He is Born!"
