I used to sit in the various flower beds and try and catch interesting shots. This shot of the Hummingbird Moth I entered in a photo contest for the VA Wildlife Magazine and it was published as the photo of the month. I just thought the dang thing was weird looking .
I also loved the contrast in the textures of the moth and the flowers in the garden.

I would add that the depth of field that your lens created in the background helped to enhance those textures. Great job. It's an awesome creature and your portrait of it is beautiful.

I was able to snap a hummingbird moth several years ago. This was from directly above as he fed on the mint.

Wow, congrats on being published Marine.
Both of you got pretty rare shots in my opinion.

Ditto to DD's compliment:

If either of you get/read the "Birds and Blooms" magazine, there is yet another fantastic photo (on page 58) of a Hummingbird Clearwing, a member of the hawk moth family. It Is published in the June/July 2017 edition. The photo there looks very much like your hummers, but imho your photos are much better. A comment made by one of the bird experts re. that photo was "...they move very fast. You did well to get such a good photo!" And so did you two!!

Thanks for sharing those little guys with everyone.
