Very cool. We have some Reds, here, but our most common hawk by far, is the Cooper's.

I love seeing hawks around. Raptors in general. We have Red Tails on occasion.

We have some hawks here as well, but we only like seeing them from a distance. If they get too close, we tend to walk outside and shoo them away... SHOO them, NOT shoot them. We don't free range the chickens any longer but the Guineas are free range in order to do their jobs. (Ticks, grubs, other insects, and most importantly, the Copperheads! Unfortunately, the larger hawks, owls, and eagles have been known to kill a few Guineas here and there over the years we have been here, along with the chickens. Especially the Golden Eagles. Here one second and BOOM, gone, just a dusting of feathers and a bunch of excited friends and relatives running around.

The chickens are cooped up, (ever wonder where that common phrase came from?) not because of the birds of prey, but mainly the coyotes and feral dogs. They took more than the birds ever thought of. We do have a HUGE owl that sits on the fence outside the COOP hoping for the Guineas to stay out at night. Those that do usually try and find a way back in with their flock mates at some point. They only get to make that mistake once.

*** Yup, we just find a spray of feathers the next morning.

No chickens that I know of around here.

I live a half block away from Main Street in my town.

I would think that the Hawk feeds on mice, rats and squirrels that live in the arroyo that’s 40 yards from my house.

Between all the restaurants near my house and the high school across the street there are plenty of rodents around.

Damn rats killed my car by nesting in the engine compartment while parked in my garage. Gaps have been filled and the traps have not sprung in the last year.

I say I hope Mr Red Shoulder gets all the damn vermin…

The hawks feast on bunnies and squirrels, voles, etc... If the chickens and guineas don't cooperate. The larger guineas... Might kick a hawk's butt.

This fellow stopped by yesterday as I was having my morning coffee. Pretty sure it's a Cooper's Hawk.
