Railroad Bridge Park

Post by Whaler » Thu Aug 25, 2016 2:55 pm

I actually took these 2 years ago but thought I would share them.
The bridge was built over the Dungeness river in 1915 and was used by the railroad until 1980 hauling passengers and freight between Port Townsand and Port Angeles. Now it is part of the Dungeness Discovery Trail.

Heck with the bridge...look at that river. My fly rod is calling me. Back later...

Those are great photos, Whaler --- really enjoyed them! :)

However, I'm a little disappointed that I didn't see this when we vacationed in WA State back in 1997. Our vacation "base" was a house in Port Townsend, which my wife's boss lent us free-of-charge. We basically used Port Townsend only as a B&B, and didn't do much in that area. Went to different parts of WA State, e.g. Bremerton Naval Yards, Mt. St. Helens recovery area, took a whale-watching cruise, then north to Vancouver, BC, and much more. Great vacation, but missed this beautiful area.

But I was surprised what your pictures immediately reminded me of -- the 1957 British-American WWII epic, "The Bridge on the River Kwai." Structurally the bridge closely resembles the Kwai bridge, sans RR tracks, the river waters have trees downed in many of the movie scenes, the banks rise up and are covered with tall, spindly trees....I was expecting you to post a shot of the Americans and British marching over the bridge....and whistling!

Anyway, your photos were a great view. It was a fun post for me! Thanks much.
