Any black and white photo lovers out there?
Back in the day, I was very interested in photography. I had a darkroom set up in my garage, and really liked the medium. Fast forward to today, and I have the option of turning a color digital photo I've shot into a B&W when I edit it. Here is one I took the other day and decided to make it a B&W.
It is ho hum at best as a color photo. As a B&W it appeals to my tastes in terms of shape texture and tone, as well as an almost surreal feel. I am amazed at how easily one can change the individual tones on the computer with post shooting edits. Far more control than I had in the darkroom of old. Not sure this is a good image, but I like it.

I did a lot of black and white in my darkroom back in the 70's. Always did contact sheets and then 8x10 of the ones I liked. Did some special effects but nothing like you can do now with digital. I got a set up to do color but it was so complicated to get the right filters and exposures I never used it much, also had to keep the developer at 80 degrees so had to have the tray in a larger tray with running warm water.
A few years ago I finally decided I would never be setting up a dark room again so I got rid of all my equipment.

Nice, I agree with you.
I shot a lot in black and white WAY back when.
I was not adverse to converting digital photos to black and white or sepia when the subject matter was appropriate. A computer scam killed my last computer and my excellent photo editing program. My new one "creates a vacuum."
One of my favorite shots, was taken driving cross country from west coast to east during change of duty stations. Somewhere in the stretch of nothing, abandoned gas station, unused pumps, and old early 1930s pickup with a collection of tumbleweeds. I turned that to sepia. Lost it with the computer fail.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I always start in RAW then it gives me the flexibility to do whatever I want in the light room. I don't use photoshop, I photograph what my eye sees.
