how about some bird pictures .... the picture of the Cardinal shown below was taken Jan 27, 2021 at Lake Conroe, just north of Houston, TX .... Cardinals are supposed to be a sign of spring .... a short time after this picture was taken we had a solid week of life threatening cold

These are from last year. They are back again to brighten our days!

This bird visited my backyard watergarden a few years ago and ate a few of my fish. I'd never seen one before and haven't seen one since. It was a thrill. I took several pictures before it left.

Annie and I spent most of our fair weather time on the water. We had a favorite place to anchor behind an island in the CT River that very few people knew about. On the chart, it was identified as too shallow for boats; which it was unless one knew where the deeper water was.

One season several years ago, a pair of Eagles built their nest along the shoreline behind that island. We watched them hatch several generations of eaglets over the years.

Really enjoying these pics.

I'll add a few.

Here's a Sharp-shinned Hawk perched on one of our feeder poles. This species and the larger Cooper's (more common in our area) make regular visits to our feeders in the winter, not to dine on bird seed, but on the many small birds that come to the feeders.


One of our iconic north woods birds is the large Pileated Woodpecker. Here's a fairly small one at the feeder.


When we first moved up here, we planted some honeysuckle right out side our door to attract hummingbirds. For the first few years, we used a feeder to attract them, but now the honeysuckle is all the invite they need.

Okay, not a bird, but one year I was wondering why our squirrel feeder was getting emptied so fast.

My neighborhood has unofficially banned bird feeders because of bears.

We're basically in the same boat with the bears. With one exception, we all feed birds and squirrels only in the winter. One gal insists on feeding hummingbirds in the summer, but she takes the feeders in at night.

This guy gave us a visit our first spring, up here, when we didn't know any better than to take our feeders down in the spring. He was downright grouchy when we tried to get rid of him.
