Ohiopyle,Pa.-Youghiogheny River

Post by bandit1250 » Sat Jul 23, 2016 7:17 pm

Took my wife to Ohiopyle today. It was so busy there we had to take about 45 minutes to find a parking place and then had to park along the shoulder of the road going out of town and walk back. It was a beautiful day and was very hot. The river had a lot of people in it to cool off. I took a few picture of the Youghiogheny (Yock-a-gay'-nee) where it runs through town. I will put a few pictures on at a time. Here is the first ones.
From up on old railroad bridge. Kayakers going down the river.

The name Ohiopyle means "white froth upon the water". Spelling is slightly different than original way.

Beautiful scene, Bandit! Thanks for the photos. I'm looking forward to more. Glad that bird is sailing the air above the froth in that last shot. Great.

You got some good shots of the falls. The bird gives a better perspective of size.

I honestly never saw a bird fly by when I took the picture but there was birds along the bank folks had been feeding. Not sure where it came from.
Here is a few more pictures.
This is right up above the falls.

Cooling off in the river. They have this area roped off above the falls for folks to get in the water.

This is below the falls. This is where the float trips start on this part of the river. They also have trips that start about 8 miles up river at Confluence,Pa. and then they take out just above Ohiopyle and the area roped off for the folks to go in the water.
Image
These guys were having fun. The river is headed north toward Connellsville,Pa. and will eventually run in to the Monongahela River.

My wife had to have this one. I was hot and ready to leave but she insisted on one more picture.

Bandit, those pics bring back memories. We went camping at Ohiopyle the day after I gave my wife her engagement ring. During the trip down the Yough, she fell out of the raft. Being a young fool in love, I went in after her. Well there she was holding her left hand over her head, not to ding the ring while I was shouting at her that the dang ring was insured but we had to pay for the paddles if we lost them.

Thanks!
