I was looking through some of the pictures on my computer, and came across this one. It's a place called Southport, a seaside town about 20 miles north of my home city, Liverpool, UK. I wish I could say that I took it - but I didn't. I just thought it was spectacular, and I still do.

This one I did take. It's a view across the River Mersey, taken from Runcorn about 10 miles SE of Liverpool, the UK's largest west coast port.

I lived in Liverpool - in one of the suburbs - until I was 20, so yes the ferries were just something we tended to take for granted. Where I am now in Runcorn is a few miles inland from Liverpool, although it still borders the River Mersey, but we can't see the daily ferries from here.

They have ferry trips along the Manchester Ship Canal during the summer, and that goes past my place, so I do get to see them sometimes.The Manchester Ship Canal - completed in 1893 - runs parallel to the river Mersey, and it was built because the Mersey becomes silted up the further inland it goes. The ship canal provides a constant depth for shipping, and is still in constant use today.

I lived abroad for many years, then came back to the UK and lived in the south of England for around 10 years, but ended up almost back where I started from about 10 years ago. They say what comes around goes around, and I guess that's true in my case!

I just went out and looked and it is bright. I think they are calling this a "super moon."
