This evenings hunt

I went out this evening about 3:00 PM for the last few hours of legal shooting times. I saw two deer in the shooting lane that never did know I was there. It was a light rain and they were feeding and I hoped I wouldn't scare them off until they moved on when they were ready. At 3:45 I heard the turkeys behind me over a hill with the their normal chatter they do when getting the flock together before they fly up for the night. Never did see one of them to get any shot with the 222. So I stayed until about 4:40 and decided it was time to head out. I looked out the lane and there came a 5 point buck. It was the same 5 point Swigs and I saw Monday. Then as I unloaded my gun to go down the tower steps I saw a really nice racked buck walk across the lane just below the tower. Very nice buck but not the big one we saw on Monday. Here is a picture down the lane with only one doe in the picture as the other one went in the edge of the brush. That is a 175 yds. to the oak tree on the other side of the deer.

Hopefully this will be my office on opening day for deer. I have killed quite a few deer from this tower and a lot of turkeys with the 222 and most were gobblers. I will soon need to patch the roof where the porcupines are eating holes in the ply wood. They must not like the taste of shingles. :o

Took my Corolla this evening and actually drove it up the woods road to save a walk in the rain. First time I did that with my car. I had cleared downed tree limbs out of the way Sunday before I took Swigs hunting here on Monday.

Well sounds like there's some potential game to be had, good luck on the opener.

Always interesting to hear of other hunts..some things very similar, while some are different. Makes it interesting to hear. In Missouri you can only hunt turkeys with a shotgun or now,. Would be a completely different experience I should think with a small caliber rifle. Interesting. Thanks for posting.

Don't want any one here to think this property is mine. Belongs to a friend that has given me lifetime hunting rights to it and the rest of his place. I wish I had a place like this but never had a good job so that was out of the reach for me to own anything better than what I am fortunate to have right now. I never made more than $10/hour at jobs that I had in our area. If it wasn't for my wife I would have very little. The wages I made won't buy land especially to be a place just for hunting. I do take care of keeping things up by keeping brush cut along the road in and keeping the tower free of leaves and bee nests. The porcupine damaged roof will need worked on soon. The shooting lanes are more than I can handle by myself so who knows how long they will be there since the previous owner/friend passed away. At 70 now I don't need to add more abuse to my body taking on things to big for me to handle.

Like you, I never made much money. But, I have been blessed with friends. I will be hunting private land with my son, who, like his dad, has made friends.

Our site suffered from last springs floods, but will still produce deer. Not as pretty as yours, but will do. Good luck to you.

I used to make pretty good money, but today, I`m no better or worse off than if I had not. In my case, poor planning. The more I made, the more I spent. I`m happy though and have no debt other than my mortgage. Have places to hunt as well, If I choose.
Life is good! :)

How much one makes dont matter. Its if you are happy and live within your means. I only owe a small amount on my house and I have enough toys and ammo to carry me thru my ending days. But the one thing I have is a great wife who takes good care of me and the home I live in. Ya life is really good here.
