A couple for the pot

Post by daytime dave » Mon Dec 26, 2022 5:57 pm

My step son was off today. He took his English pointer out early today and saw plenty of rabbits. We agreed to hunt late in the afternoon. We didn't take the dog. We flushed four rabbits. We got these two. I hit one and wounded it and he finished it. He got the other on his own. We both missed a rabbit each. It was an enjoyable afternoon hour. I cleaned the rabbits and they are currently in the fridge in salted water for a nice overnight. They will head into the pot in a day or three. A nice rabbit stew will be had for the two of us. I think I will slow cook on the stove in broth for hours before adding the potatoes and vegetables. I may debone it before the additives, depends on the amount of time available.

Good for you, Dave. I haven't had rabbit since we were kids. Grandma loved it when were brought home rabbits. It was a staple for our grandparents in the Depression.
