Small game afternoon with SxS Stoeger .410

Post by daytime dave » Sun Oct 30, 2022 5:30 pm

I had a long day today eradicating leaves at Mary's place then mowing and collecting leaves at our new place. I had to trailer the garden tractor and new leaf sweeper back and forth. At the end of working both places, I kept looking at the pasture. I took my Stoeger Uplander .410 and six Remington nitros and set off to look for small game on the hillside. I was looking for squirrels, rabbits, pheasant or grouse. I could have seen any of them, but I saw nothing.
Here are some shots of the pre-hunt gun and shells. The strap is a Triple-K shotgun strap.

They are a fun little gun, I have one in coachgun configuration.
Great on small game if you keep range reasonable, have even taken foxes with mine at close range.

Nice looking shotgun. The 410 is one of my favorite as I can shoot it all day and still sleep at night.

Love that little 410 double, Dave. Very nice. How's the ammo supply on 410 these days?

I have been fortunate NCG. I purchased a few boxes here and there over the years as it was becoming one of my favorite rounds. I purchased a very nice over and under this month in .410. I'll post some photos soon. The shop was new to me and I hadn't seen their ammunition display. After filling out the paperwork, I asked if he had any .410. They did and I got two boxes. It was about a dollar a round, but they had it. The man said he would have suggested buying the second box as it was pretty scarce. It was not a brand that leaps to mind, so I don't remember what it was.
Funny thing, I used to get ammunition for free from time to time. .410 was always a staple then. Now, I have to buy it.

Tina has a nice 410 pump that is her house gun and her go to for close up varmints. She is EVIL with it. Yes, 410 is hard to come by. She ordered four boxes on line and it was nearly $100, but she ordered what she could find while I was at the VA one afternoon and it was Home Defense ammo. You know, premium stuff. She just laughed. "It'll kill a varmint, right?"

I have a very nice Stoeger Coach Gun Tina bought me as a get well gift YEARS ago. Recovering from one major surgery or another. Beautiful twelve.

I always wanted an over and under but never got around to buying one, even when I was shooting skeet while in the Corps. Congrats on the 410, Very nice.

That's a beauty of a Coach gun Marine. I'm sure her .410 premium ammo will stop a critter from getting the chickens.

As I stated earlier, I finally bought over and under number two, a .410. I've been carrying it afield a lot. I'll get around to posting about it sooner or later. Maybe today if I go out.
