2020/2021 Deer season

Post by GunnyGene » Wed Aug 12, 2020 7:40 am

Is almost upon us. Time to start prepping your gear, scouting locations, and checking the progress of CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) in your areas. Most States will publish information regarding CWD Management zones & testing/handling/processing/transportation of harvested deer. CWD is not known to be transmittable to humans, however poor management of the herd can lead to further spread of the disease in the deer population which is not a good thing for hunters.

New hunters should especially be advised about this problem, and the rules regarding it.

My County is not in a Management Zone yet, but MDWFP has a meeting coming up in a few days to take a look at the State-wide situation, so that may change.

I think the NC herd is ok, last I heard, but a couple neighboring States have reported cases of CWD (VA, TN) and deer don't pay much attention to signs or lines on a map ;) .

Check with NCWRC: https://www.ncwildlife.org/Hunting/Hunt ... h-Carolina

Got some CWD in West TN, so far no reports near me.
Regular gun season here opens 1st Saturday before Thanksgiving. Several other seasons before that.
My Henry is chomping at the bit to put one on the ground.

I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.
