Moose

Post by tcpip95 » Sat Aug 24, 2024 4:23 pm

In 4 weeks I'm leaving for a bucket list moose hunt in NW Alberta, up near the Yukon and NW Territories border. My plan was to use my Browning BAR 30-06 with 168 gr Buffalo Bore Supercharged lead-free ammunition. My problem is that I'm not getting on target with this ammo worth a darn. Long story short, I've decided to switch to my Henry 45-70. This rifle does great with Hornady 250 gr LEVERevolution ammo.

I use it for deer hunting out to 150 yards. I have the rifle scoped with a Leupold VX-5HD using the CDS and have the turret cap calibrated for this ammo.

I'm told that I can expect shots of less than 200 yards, and I'm confident that I can put the bullet on target from that range. My question is: will this ammo be adequate for knocking down a moose at 200 yards? TIA

Try some Barnes TTSX when you get a chance. Ive had really good luck with it in 338 Win Mag. Good luck on the hunt hope you get one.
