First WT, and first archery kill

Well, I spent a stupid amount of time chasing deer this season, and although I saw tons, and got within 20 yards of the biggest mule deer I’ve ever seen, as well as some cranker WTs, I didn’t get a shot on a legal buck. Then I decided to trade a useless rifle (.223 which is pointless in my hunting based world) for a crossbow. Game changer apparently, as there have been a ton of bucks wandering through my property, and this afternoon one decided to feed my family. I shot it off my front porch. I was in and out the door a few times and he didn’t bolt, so I guess you don’t have to go far from home to score! It’s great to have an animal for the freezer at the 11th hour. I bought 2 smaller pork tenderloin and a 4 pack of chicken breasts the other day, and it was $42.00 so all the time spent in the woods is covered at least.

My local taxidermy guy is doing a euro for me. One of the tines was broken off, but he showed me a few mounts he repaired and they look great. He sent me a mock-up with one tine, but it has a bit too much curve (I have a few good photos of this deer from the spring and summer to show what it looked like before.

First draft of repair:
