I would like to do a guided bison hunt in Missouri, Colorado, Montana or Wyoming. I have googled each state for bison hunts and it is overwhelming how many hunts there are out there. I don’t want anything really expensive but something in the range of $7K or less. I would also like 3 days/3 nights with lodging and meals. Can anyone recommend a good reliable ranch or guide that I could look into?

I have scheduled my bison hunt for Nov 6-8,2023 in Cook Station, MO. My question now is which ammo to use in my 45-70. I should be in the 75-100 yard range for the kill. I am considering the Hornady LEVERevolution Ammunition 45-70 Government 325 Grain FTX. Someone suggested a 400gr bullet but they have a much slower velocity than the 325gr. Any thoughts on this?

You can't lose with a big hard cast bullet. What do you think brought on the near extinction of that species? Big slow bullets powered by a case full of black powder. Look up the specs for 45-70, 45-90, 50-70, 50-90 etc. in your copy of Cartridges Of The World.

I just read this on our local gun site. It’s data for 45 colt but plug your 45/70 numbers in and see what the difference is between the two bullets you mentioned.
probably based on Taylor's TKO formula .
the 357 has way more muzzle energy but the 45 caliber has thst big ol diameter.
I have no strong opinion on what's better but just get a fuzzier feeling in the woods with the 45 Colt on my hip.
Taylor had alot of field experience hunting very tough things in Africa and his formula is based on that experience.

multiply bullet mass (measured in grains) by muzzle velocity (measured in feet per second) by bullet diameter (measured in inches) and then divides the product by 7,000
