The fifth of the year.

Post by DsGrouse » Mon Nov 29, 2021 1:09 pm

I'm not an antler hunter. Due to our cholesterol, we pretty much stick to skinned chicken and venison. So, for us, it is about meat. This last was a 134 yard shot with 308 subs from my Ruger 308.

Va allows for 6 tags in my county, I have five as of now.

The first three were during muzzleloader season. The fourth fell to my Dan Wesson 715 with federal 180 grain bear loads at 50 yards.

The bottom is the entrance, top is the exit. I was pleasantly surprised by the capabilities of the 180grain federal loads.

I am headed out tonight to see if I can fill my final tag.

number 6, a little spike is down. It was not my best shot. I miss judged the line I have in my field. I thought I was shooting 25yds away, and I was closer to 75. the 45lc from the 97. took both his front legs. It took me an hour but with the help of my neighbor I put him down. He's hanging in the fridge and will go to the rest of the trimmings for breakfast sausage.

Congrats, looks like some good eatin right there, also sounds like the freezer is getting full. ;)
We're only allowed two bucks per season, but
we can buy what they call an antlerless tag, which means does or bucks with less than 3" antlers.
Then, you can take 3 a day every day of the season. :o 👍

Congrats on an excellent season. Meat in the freezer is my motto. Don’t need no stinkin horns. Lol
