So - I get to the stand about 10 minutes before sunrise - 20 minutes after first shooting light. I never get out while it's still dark. I tell folks there's no need because I've never shot a deer in the dark. Anyway, I get into the stand, east by southeast wind. After I got the doe on Sunday I didn't rewash the outers. I walked down the east side of the woods with the scent of the doe still on the hunting clothes. Get to stand - up and settled. Rifle hanging on the hook on the tree. Like Sunday my attention is in the woods. And like Sunday a deer shows up over my left shoulder. But instead of being 90 yards away this one was 20 yards. And it was looking right at me. Bobbed his head a few times trying to catch me move. Then he put his nose to the ground. I snagged the rifle and cocked the hammer. He heard the hammer cock and got very nervous - I thought he was going to jump and run. He took a few steps and stopped and put his nose to the ground again. Cross hairs on the heart and pulled the trigger. He headed straight east, slowed, stopped, then toppled. Called the Father In Law (what's the difference between in-laws and outlaws? Outlaws are wanted - sorry - couldn't help myself). He's a great guy and was out in 20 minutes or so to help me load it. Same load as the doe - Hornady brass, CCI 300's, Hornady 158 grain XTP's and 15 grains of 2400. The autopsy showed it blew off the bottom part of his heart. I'll not post that pic, but I'll post these.....
