I finally got one

Post by daytime dave » Sat Nov 28, 2020 5:39 pm

It's been a long time since I've been able to hunt for deer. Either no place to hunt or no time. I have two weeks and I have been prepping my stepson's place all summer. It still needs a lot more work, but he has permission on his neighbors property too, so that's a plus. He has so many permissions in the area that I have been hunting his and the neighbors pretty much exclusively for the last few days. This morning I finally saw one.

Well this morning I finally got one.......................

With our spare car, the VW. The guy behind me was nice enough to stop and ask me if I was all right. I was of course. I had gone from 55 to about 20 before impact. He said the doe got up and ran off. Figures, not even able to get that one.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Darn, hate to hear that but glad to hear you are okay. A few years ago one of my nieces claimed one on the highway as well.

Got my first deer on the road. Had to pay for vehicle damage. Didn’t get to keep her. Bummer. Glad you are ok.

That's something we have to watch for all the time. Could have been so much worse for you and the deer, too. Too bad about the car, of course, but glad you're okay.

Been there done that. First was with a Chevy Tahoe, 45 mph in the dark no time to brake. $7800 in damage to the car and fatal for the little buck I hit. Second was my wife with the same Tahoe, only a headlight this time and the doe ran off $175 in damage. Third was me again in our Ford Edge, 60 mph on the highway again no brakes in the dark on the way to work. $5000.00 in damage and fatal for the doe. Obliviously my wife doesn’t know how to properly hit a deer.

Sorry about your car Dave, that looks expensive. Better luck on your hunt, kill one on your terms...... :D

Sorry about your bad luck brother but glad you weren't hurt.

Wife hit one in 2018 with the Titan, nearly $8,000 to repair. The doe jumped up and ran off. Right around 2000, I took the largest buck in the county, with her festiva... Totaled the little car. That buck didn't get up.

We are careful, but have hit a half dozen over the years.

Sorry to hear of your accident, Dave, but glad you got things slowed down so it wasn't worse! The deer carcass count along the highways in/around KC over the past week seems to have jumped a lot!

Hope you get one from a stand next time.
